While the timings were optimised better than the XFX nForce790i Ultra SLI, the XFX board still comes out just ahead in read bandwidth. The copy and write speeds are almost identical between these two DDR3 boards and even very similar to the XFX nForce 780i SLI DDR2 board running at just 800MHz memory.

The MSI P35 Diamond is a DDR3 board, but even with the latest BIOS we were unable to optimise the memory timings anywhere close to what we could achieve with the Gigabyte, and so because of this it suffers a little. Clearly, memory timings play a very large part in DDR3 performance so we recommend you buy low latency kits and spend time in the BIOS optimising them!

Again there's very little difference between the Gigabyte and XFX boards with the MSI losing out significantly because of its slower timings.

Sisoft Sandra tells a slightly different story where the Gigabyte actually comes out in front here by a small margin and the MSI offers a slight improvement over the DDR2-based XFX nForce 780i SLI motherboard.

However, the latency results generally reflect those reported by Everest, although the XFX nForce 790i Ultra SLI is a couple of nanoseconds faster here.
